Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park (Just out of Crescent City, CA)
The park is named after the intrepid explorer, Jedediah Stong Smith who was the first white man to explore the interior
of northern California. His journey through the coast redwood belt was part of a remarkable two-year trapping
expedition which began in 1826. Smith pioneered a trail southwest from the Great Salt Lake across the Mojave Desert
through the San Bernadino Mountains into California.
Discovery of gold along the Sacramento and Trinity Rivers in the mid-1800’s drew many thousands to northern
California. The need for a supply route to remote mining camps initiated a spurt of exploration that motivated settlement
of Humboldt and Del Norte counties.
Redwood National and State Parks
An amazing diversity of life exists at Redwood National and State Parks (RNSP). The ancient coast redwood ecosystem
preserved in the parks contains some of the planet's most majestic forests. Here, banana slugs, gray whales, Douglas-fir,
black bears, and sea anemones are equally at home with redwoods. Park staff work to maintain and restore the area's
biological diversity through a wide range of resource management and educational activities. Preserving both natural
processes and the region's species and genetic diversity helps ensure that countless generations can experience the
beauty and complexity of an old-growth redwood forest. This is your personal classroom whose wonders wait to be
explored.

Klamath River Fishing Opportunities With a free flowing length of 175 miles from Iron Gate Dam to the ocean, the
Klamath River is one of the truly magnificent rivers on the west coast. Local tributaries empty into the Klamath,
increasing the river's flow and level providing pacific salmon and steelhead trout a migration route upstream to their
spawning grounds in its tributaries.   Attracting anglers from far and wide, the salmon usually weigh from 10 to 20
pounds, but can weigh much more. Steelhead average three to five pounds, which is a bit smaller than in other areas of
the northwest, but they bite more readily than most.  Check out this
Website for more information.

Area Golf Courses
The Del Norte Golf Course is a secluded course located in the heart of the redwoods. The course is located alongside
of the Smith River. It is a challenging course to play. The fairways are flat, and some trees can alter your shots. The
small greens are basically flat, but there are some subtle breaks in them. A creek comes into play on two holes.  The
course was built in 1953 and is a 9 hole, par 71 golf course. We are located in Crescent City, California and are within
walking distance of the Redwoods National Park. It is a walkable course but carts are available.
